Japan & the Triple X Challenge

I’m just back from Japan where I was invited to introduce the next generation of Triple X. While there, I was able to catch up with long-time friends, meet new friends, and talk with so many people who have a passion for health and the Nutrilite brand. So much so, they were eager to celebrate the brand with an amazing feat that, if all went well, would be a record-breaking achievement worthy of a Guinness World Record.

Jumping for a world record

How do you go about attempting a world record to showcase the new Triple X multivitamin multimineral supplement and its nourishing benefits?

For Amway Japan, it started at the Tokyo Dome where professional baseball, international football and world-class sporting events are the norm. Next, 2,500 people were invited to fill the infield and outfield. The goal: To jump up in the air with arms and legs stretched outward in the shape of an X. It is a jump affectionately called “the Triple X.” And, if they could do it continuously for two minutes, it would be worthy of a world record.

After the announcer signaled the start over the loudspeaker, “Three, two, one, go,” they were off. I have to say, I got quite a kick watching the group do the Triple X. Here’s a glimpse of the action:

You might think this non-stop jumping for two minutes would be easy, but that did not prove to be the case. Only about one in three people could do the Triple X for the full two minutes. I have my own theory on why, but more on that later.

The N-Unit legacy

Of course, this was all great fun, but the main event bringing me to Japan was the next generation of Triple X. I’m so proud of this product and thrilled to introduce it. It really has a special place in my heart. After all, of all our Nutrilite products, Triple X is the most like my father’s favorite product, the N-Unit, a multivitamin/mineral from all natural sources. Dad introduced the N-Unit back in 1960. Distributors liked the N-Unit, but many preferred the higher nutrient potencies found in Double X, so when product offerings had to be streamlined, the N-Unit was discontinued.

Our best Triple X yet

Here we are today with the next generation Triple X, which I believe is our best version yet. In addition to 22 essential vitamins and minerals, this version has even more phytonutrients. It also features PhytoProtect®, a patented blend of botanical extracts designed to work together to target the body’s antioxidant mechanism.

Today’s Triple X not only aligns more closely with my father’s N-Unit concept, but it is one of the best examples of combining the best of nature and best of science that I have seen yet.

My theory

After talking with folks from marketing, I learned that only 30 percent of Amway Business Owners in Japan are taking Triple X … the same percent able to complete the two-minute Triple X jumping challenge. What’s more, almost all these energetic people – 90 percent – have Triple X on standing order.

Knowing what I know about the nourishing benefits of making Triple X a daily habit, I’d say it’s quite possible that the successful jumpers also have Triple X on standing order.

Fun with friends

One special treat was having dinner with Masato Watanabe, an exceptional Amway Business Owner and long-time friend. With the largest Nutrilite-focused Amway business in Japan, Watanabe-san is especially tuned into the mindset of today’s young ABOs. Not only are they are more passionate than ever about the benefits of Triple X, he explained, but young ABOs are eager to take personal responsibility for their health, their community and the planet. This was music to my ears.

One thing I especially love about Watanabe-san is his ability to share how farming is central to the success of the Nutrilite brand. Just last June, during my visit to the Amway Botanical Research Center (ABRC) in China, I saw him taking in all the latest research activity. Watanabe-san even opens each of his meetings with a video about the ABRC and closes with a video on the goji berry, one of the ABRC’s early successes. You’ll find these videos below. His passion and knowledge about the farms and the Nutrilite brand is truly inspirational.
