I’ve been thinking about how easy videoconferencing is these days. Especially the incredible ease with which this virtual platform allows us to connect across continents, yet makes us feel as if we were talking with people in the same room. No longer are we limited to the in-person meetings of days gone by.

Even my father would have been inspired to conduct his famous Pepper Tree Talks by videoconference if today’s technology were available back in his day. Don’t get me wrong, in-person connections will always be important, but the ability to meet face to face virtually from just about anywhere in the world means we can get together more often and talk about things that matter, and do so with incredible ease.

During one videoconference last summer, I was able to meet with 60 top leaders in Europe from my home in Telluride. That so many attendees so far apart could seamlessly interact was impressive. But seeing their passion for health, the business and the Nutrilite™ brand as we talked was extraordinary. I certainly left the meeting energized to take action.

For many of the leaders who joined that June meeting, one question was on the top of their minds. What’s in store for the Nutrilite brand as we look to the future? The future, I explained, looks brighter than ever, in large part because we are able to share our prevention mindset to an ever-growing digital world.

A mindset of prevention

As you may know, a prevention mindset is the foundation of the Nutrilite brand. What you may not know is this mindset extends far beyond food supplements and personal health to touch on every aspect of life on our planet from the forests to the oceans to peace in the world. Now, more than ever, our planet needs our care and protection, and that starts with a prevention mindset. We all call the same planet home—at least for the foreseeable future—so it’s the big reason, the “so what” that connects all of us and hopefully inspires us to take action.

In other words, when I think of prevention, I think about the health of the body, but I also think about the health of the planet, the people, and the need for all of us to get together—in person or virtually—so that we can work together to solve the challenges holding us back from a bright future.

At last count, we have about one million Amway distributors in 60 countries. One million. Imagine the impact we could have if we all embraced a prevention mindset. And, with the technology to virtually connect frequently and with ease, our ability to change the world for the better just got easier.

I fully expect the Nutrilite brand and its foundation of prevention to play an even bigger role in the business as we look forward. Why? The Amway team is developing an innovative strategy focused on one goal: To make it easier for distributors to not only provide quality products, but also deliver holistic nutrition, health and wellness solutions that people need to thrive. And, when people thrive, they are more likely to set a positive spiral in motion that helps create healthy communities and ultimately a healthier planet.

Of course, virtual platforms—social, mobile and web—are in the works to support this effort. In this way, distributors have the digital support they need to more effectively share Nutrilite supplements, recommend other products and services that target individual needs, and even create online communities that inspire healthy living.

The bottom line

To be sure, there’s no one “right” path forward to help make a difference in the health of people, communities and the planet. To me, the right path is one that resonates with you. It could be joining others to start a walking club, teach healthy cooking classes, protect coral reefs, plant tree saplings, inspire water conservation, or start a community garden. You get the idea.

The only wrong path is doing nothing.

He was looking for the purest, most nutritious botanicals, and he already knew that they needed to be grown sustainably and naturally, without any synthetic fertilizers or chemicals. That same belief continues to guide us today.
