Food safety has been making headline news these days in a big way. Stories about food recalls and other safety issues compete with those uncovering food adulteration and food fraud. Is it any wonder consumers are demanding more information about the foods (and supplements) they consume? Companies not used to this level of scrutiny are scrambling to regain the confidence of consumers who demand to know one simple thing: What happened to a product before they bought it?

A traceability process, decades in the making

At Nutrilite, the ability to trace a product’s journey from the very beginning has always taken center stage. No scrambling here. Even when my father bought his first farm over 80 years ago, traceability was top of mind. He insisted on having the ability to control everything that happened to his plants from growth to harvest to final processing. On this, there was no debate. After all, his goal was to make nothing less than the best supplements for his customers, and that demanded building traceability into the process. Over the decades, my father’s philosophy has transformed into a best-in-class program that ensures products that bear his beloved Nutrilite name remain pure, safe and effective.

Tumeric Nuticert Certified Farm - Cambodia,Turmeric extract used in the PhytoProtect blend is grown on Nutricert certified organic farms located in India and Cambodia. Leveraged in co-ops these small parcel farms (1-2 acres) encourage natural habitat and wildlife in which predator and prey balance is maintained such that pests don’t become an issue thus avoiding the use of pesticides and other chemicals.

Consumer confidence starts with traceability

We know that any supplement you choose must be pure, safe and effective. But you need to know it, too. You deserve to be confident that the products you consume and the products you give your family meet quality standards. For this reason, I am so happy to see the visibility of our online traceability program gathering momentum.

What is traceability?

In its simplest form, traceability is knowing where the foods and supplements you consume come from. At Nutrilite, we take traceability to a higher level, exceeding industry standards. For example, some companies only trace back to their nearest ingredients supplier. By contrast, we not only trace our ingredients back to the nearest supplier, but to their supplier, and the suppliers supporting them. For botanical ingredients, our journey goes all the way back to the seed on the farm where the plant was grown. In the case of a wild-crafted botanical ingredient, we trace back to its precise location using global positioning satellite (GPS) technology. As a result, we have the ability to test for purity and safety at every step to ensure Nutrilite supplements contain everything we say they do and nothing else.

A process built on passion

My father would be so proud of how far we have taken his passion for traceability. We fully embrace transparency and welcome every opportunity to showcase our traceability process with customers and potential customers. For me, knowledge is power. Being well informed puts everyone in a better position to make the very best decisions about their health, and help others do the same.

Nutrilite Traceability Program Revisited

Dr. Sam's Journey

The pursuit of wellness

Wellness has always been central to my story. When my father, Carl F. Rehnborg, founded Nutrilite in 1934, his goal was to help people everywhere take responsibility for their health, their wealth, and the planet. Even then, he knew that all these things were interconnected. His vision shaped my own path—a journey grounded in curiosity, science, and a passion for helping others live well.

Farming

Farming for the future

There’s a long history of farming innovation at Nutrilite. It started when my father, Carl F. Rehnborg, began growing alfalfa in the 1930s before we even knew to call it organic. He was looking for the purest, most nutritious botanicals, and he already knew that they needed to be grown sustainably and naturally, without any synthetic fertilizers or chemicals. That same belief continues to guide us today.
